Computing Experience
I consider myself quite proficient with general computer based skills such as the use of word processors, spreadsheets and databases as well as possessing a large amount of knowledge in design packages like "Adobe Photoshop 7" and "Adobe Illustrator CS". I am also very familiar with "Microsoft FrontPage" and "Macromedia Dreamweaver" which I used for editing the first 5 versions of my personal website (I now use a PHP based content management system called e107 which requires me to use/manipulate PHP, HTML and SQL).
Other programs I am familiar with but only have a working knowledge are "Jasc's Paint Shop Pro"; "Planetside’s Terragen", "Cinema 4D", "3D Studio Max", "Macromedia Flash" and "Macromedia Director".
I have some basic knowledge of PHP, JavaScript and Java and can often manipulate certain codes to my liking but am by no means proficient in these languages. I consider myself capable in HTML and CSS.
My work at ProVision has enabled me to work with a skilled coder to produce templates for the forum system "ProBoards" which we could then sell. Together we produced many templates for clients, as well as generic products to sell. This involved communicating with the client to find exactly what they wanted, as well as discussing with them any changes that should/could be made to the concepts we produced. This has not only improved my team working skills but gave me more insight into commercial projects.
Hobbies
My main hobby has to be my artwork which is mainly digital. Using various programs and my Wacom graphics tablet I produce many pieces. I particularly enjoy creating artwork in the following styles: vector portraiture, space scenes, abstract renders and photo manipulation. I also do some traditional art in the form of sketches and paintings but I prefer the advantages of digital artwork.
I also enjoy the Warhammer 40,000 game. This game involves the collection of a science fiction based army, assembling and then painting the models (which are either plastic or metal, sometimes both). You then play against other people using dice rolls to determine the moves and strengths of your army. I really like the painting side of this, and the creation of a background for your army is also a great pull for me. I do play the war side of the game but I’m not as enthusiastic for this part of the hobby.
I love to snowboard. I have all my own gear, including my board. It was introduced to me by my boyfriend and we go at least once a year at christmas. I have been to Val D'Isere in the French Alps four times now, but also practice at the Milton Keynes where there is a real snow slope, though it is so much nicer to board down a real mountain.
Another physical activity I enjoy is "Airsoft". This is like paintball only the weapons are more realistic (practically replicas of real firearms, firing plastic ball bearings known as BBs) and the games themselves are more orientated towards missions and tactics than just running around and shooting people.
My other hobbies include computer games, both console and PC based; reading science fiction novels; writing fan fiction (the writing of stories based upon an already existing storyline from a movie or book); collecting toy sheep; dancing at the local rock club and listening to music. |
